Howard's racing profession began initially in 1970 when he competed in Autocross events with the Mid-Cheshire Motor Racing Club. Following several years’ absence he turned to circuit racing and as he was running a successful business specialising in Minis it was the obvious car to compete in, running in both the Rover Sponsored Mini Miglia Championship and in the BARC North West Centre with a 1430cc modified Mini. From 1989 to the present day he has competed in various Championships including; Rover Turbo, Ford XR3, Mighty Mini, Porsche 924 and currently, a handful of races within the MaX 5 Championship.

Tim's racing career began in 1977 at the Jim Russell International Racing Driver's School at Silverstone and Snetterton circicuits in Formula Ford 1600 Single-Seaters. He raced regularly, albeit underfunded, in FF1600 up until the mid nineteen eighties before moving up to the 'wings and slicks' Formula Ford 2000 category. He was hotly tipped as a potential front-runner in Formula 3 in 1987 by one of the categories leading teams, Madgwick Motorsport, but was unable to raise the necessary budget. Since the early 1990's to the present day he has competed occasionally in Formula Ford, Formula Renault, Britcar, Britsports and Radical races.
